Mens Captain - Dee ShahI am honoured to have been voted Club Captain for 2009/10. I am hoping to continue with the good work done by all the past Captains even though we are faced with difficult times ahead with the uncertainty with our landlords. My regular game of golf started at Barrow Hills and I have loved playing every minute especially after having joined the Saturday mornings roll up and club competitions.
I would welcome any suggestions that members have in making sure that the club works for everyone. We need to encourage as many new members as possible and retain existing members. We are still the best value for money club in Surrey.
My chosen charity is White Lodge in Chertsey. White Lodge works with disabled adults, children and their families to provide a creative, individually tailored service to meet their needs. I hope that everybody will do their best to help me raise as much money as possible for this worthy cause. I will of course donate any winnings to the charity.
I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible on the course.
Ladies Captain - Phyllis Williams
I have the honour of having been voted Ladies Captain 2008 – 2009. I have been a member of Barrow Hills Golf Club since 1983 and have enjoyed every moment of my time with the Club having joined when working at the MOD Establishment from 1980 – 2000. During my membership I have been Captain of the Ladies Section twice. The Ladies have a programme of events including a Winter Eclectic competition, the Emms Cup, the Ernie Sewell Salver, and many other competitions such as away games. The Ladies Section was where I learnt to play golf on Saturday afternoons and one of my principal ambitions is to help other new lady members to gain the enjoyment I have experienced. So, if you are already a lady member the Ladies Section is an ideal starting place to learn and improve your golf in a friendly atmosphere. All of us were beginners once with a 36 handicap. So, make a break, leave your partner at home on a Saturday afternoon and join us. We meet at 12.30 with a tee – off time of 13.00hrs. Dates are displayed on the outside board and in the Clubhouse.
