In order to make the induction experience pleasant, we have found that prospective members should enjoy a free round of golf with a current member to ensure you are familiar with the following:

Course Restrictions Access/Exit from the course: Members are to produce their membership card with an in date sticker attached to gain Access to the Golf Club. There are two methods of gaining Access and Exit from the Golf Club:

  • When the Test Track is in use the only point of Access/Exit is by the Mansion Crossing and is controlled by means of the barriers operated from the control cabin. All Members are to obey the controller’s instructions.
  • When the Test Track is not in use and the mansion Crossing Gate is closed, Access/Exit is via the Main Site Entrance and round the Test Track. The Speed Limit on the Test Track is 30 mph, and normal rules of the road apply (Keep left). Any person considered to be exceeding the speed limit will be reported to the Committee for consideration of disciplinary procedures.

Test Track In-use

  • When the Test Track is In-use/Open e.g.: both pairs of black & white barriers are open at Mansion Crossing UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES ARE MEMBERS TO STAND ON OR CROSS THE TEST TRACK. Do not play off the stones .The ball must be lifted and dropped not nearer the hole . Penalty one stroke.
  • On some occasions only part of the track is in use. The part known as the Snake may be in use, which will mean the 16th Tee will be out of use and you are not to cross this part of the Test Track.

Dress Code The following items are not acceptable apparel:

  • Collarless or sleeveless shirts (Gentlemen) (Collarless ladies)
  • Denim jeans, jackets or skirts (of any colour)
  • Tracksuit bottoms, Football, Sports or Beach shorts or similar
  • ¾ length Sports or Beach trousers or similar
  • Combat or Cargo trousers.Or Trainers.

Local Rules Most local Rules are explained on the Score Card. An important one that would take far to much space because of its complexity is the order of play at holes 2 & 11 and 3rd Tee.

  • 2nd Tee When the 2nd Green is clear or the bell has been rung you may Tee-off, when you have reached the green and there are other players behind you, mark your balls, clear the green and ring the bell and take cover under the shelter behind the tree, allow the following players to Tee-off, act as spotter when possible, when they have Teed-off the following players are to ring the bell at the 2nd Tee, you are then free to return to the green and putt out. If there is a ball from the following players in your line of play you may mark and lift the ball, replacing it after you have played. Once your players have putted out you have priority to Tee-off on the 3rd.
  • 11th Tee Do not Tee-off until the bell has been rung by the players in front, this time round you are to putt out on the 11th green then ring the bell before crossing promptly to the 12th Tee when the Test Track is not in use. If the Test Track is in use take cover under the shelter as for the 2nd and wait for the bell from the 11th Tee.
  • 6th & 15th Tees Do not Tee-off until the bell adjacent to the green has been rung, remember to ring it yourself once you have cleared the green.
  • 10th & 13th Tees and 3rd & 12th Green Players on the 13th Tee have priority over players on the 10th Tee. Players on the 10th Tee in the midst of a match have priority over players on the 1st Tee. Do Not Tee-off when players are on the 3rd/12th green, but do not enter the green if players have started to Tee-off. These are the general rules for this area of the course but common sense should be applied here to allow play to flow where possible.

Care of the Course – Course Etiquette – Consideration Towards Others Please take care of the course:

  • If you hit the green check for a pitch mark and repair it, also if you find others please repair them.
  • If you take a divot, please replace it or others if you come across them.
  • Remove the flag when putting out.
  • Ensure you are correctly dressed.
  • Do not have your mobile phone switched on.
  • Because of the closeness of the course be aware of others when talking in your group.
  • Be prepared to shout FORE, better to shout and miss than not and hit.

Submission of Cards/Maintenance of Handicap If you do not hold a handicap you can submit three cards signed by yourself and your playing (member) partner and by placing them in the box, the handicap secretary will then award the appropriate handicap and issue a certificate. It is every player’s responsibility to maintain their handicaps by playing in qualifying competitions, e.g. Monthly Medals or other Club competitions, and also by submitting a good card voluntarily.

Competition Entries Competition entry sheets are displayed on the notice board in advance. All members are encouraged to participate in the competitions; they are very sociable and enjoyable events.

Inter-Club Matches For a considerable number of years BHGC has played a number of different clubs both at home and away.

Introduction of Guests Should you wish to bring guests they are most welcome. Please ensure that you book them in on the sheet in the cabinet next to the Clubhouse door before play commences. You must remember that you are responsible for their behaviour and ensure that they comply with ALL the rules, most importantly those in respect of the Test Track when it is in use.

Finally It cannot be emphasized strongly enough, any incident involving the Test Track and a member of BHGC could see the Course closed during Test Track opening times. If you see anyone contravening the rules please report it to the Club Secretary or a Committee Member.

Please enjoy your time here and we hope to see you in some of the competitions and matches.
